Beauty Tips: A Guide To Organic Products

There are no official guidelines in place for natural beauty products, but organic products must adhere to strict regulations. In fact, the US Department of Agriculture has a national organic program that states that the word "organic" can only be used on product labels that are raw or processed in agriculture. These standards also ensure that certain ingredients can not be used in products, such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Organic products can be packaged with four different types of labels, depending on their specific content. Products whose labels indicate "100% organic" must be made up of these types of ingredients implicitly. So-called organic or certified organic labels represent 95% of these ingredients. Beauty products labeled "made with organic ingredients" contain at least 70% of these ingredients. Although the word "organic" appears on these labels, the products do not carry the official seal of the US Department of Agriculture. Finally, labels that report "less than 70% organic ingredients" can not list any of these types of items on the front panel; they must be listed on the back with the other ingredients.

When looking for organic products, you want to stay away from those with formaldehyde, xylene. and octylphenol. These ingredients should not be found in certified organic beauty products because they can cause damage to your body. Xylene, for example, can irritate the skin and cause liver damage. Formaldehyde is known to cause asthma, eye irritation and headaches.

There are specific brands of certified organic beauty products. These brands include Organic Pharmacy, Green People, Organic Botanic and Lavera. Most of these products can be purchased at health food stores or department stores, and all can be purchased online. Organic essential oils, distilled from plants without pesticides, are available for people who practice aromatherapy.

The use of organic beauty products has many advantages. The main benefits of using organic as opposed to non-organic products are that the former are healthier for your body and better for the environment. Another positive aspect of using organic products is that they help keep farms independent in business. Organic beauty products are also extremely beneficial for sensitive skin. The bottom line is that true organic beauty products have no preservatives.
