Another disadvantage is that the bottom of the beam generally falls well below the ceiling of the shed, so that the door of the shed is shorter than the height of the ceiling. Another, sometimes better, way to handle this is to use some sort of roof or modified gable roof over the hangar door. This allows the roof truss system to act as its own beam. Often, the farm that spans the door is a multi-ply farm and its bottom can be even with the height of the hangar ceiling. This allows the door to be higher and close to the same height as the ceiling of the shed.
