Minimalist homes are often chosen by homeowners to renovate or build their properties, because their simple, transparent style makes them more comfortable and relaxing. The minimalist design is influenced by Japanese art elements of clean lines and open spaces. It does not support complex features, clutter and unnecessary items that take up space.

If you want to apply this principle to the architecture of your own home, you must focus on simplicity and keep things in their natural state. You should choose a flatter roof and more open spaces. Try to avoid a roof structure that has a steep step. For the design of your inner house, if you need a private space, try to avoid permanent walls and instead use a shoji or sliding door. This way you can always have an open space when you do not need a closed area.

The flooring should go with the simple and natural theme. Wood is often the choice for this style. You can still have stone tiles, but abstain from bright types. Stone tiles muted in the colors of the earth would be the best.

Wooden beams, walls and counters should be left in their purest form. If the item is wood, the most you should do is have it stain to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Stone countertops should just be polished too to bring out the grains and stains of the material. Metal items should also be simply polished and unpainted.

Minimalist home designs should have a global look that is impeccable and effortless. However, when you choose paint for the walls, you can still move away from the white. But you have to stay with neutral shades like beige. The strongest color you can choose is a pale shade of terracotta. The guideline in selecting colors for this type of design is to continue to create the feel of open spaces. The colors that make an area seem closed should be avoided. The idea is that your home is in harmony with nature. You can add mirror doors for a modern touch, if you wish.

Windows are also essential to creating open spaces in minimalist home designs. Large sliding windows are ideal. If you must use blinds, select those in bamboo or wood or those that are neutral in color. If you prefer to use curtains, do not use them with floral or ornate prints. Choose those with pure materials, preferably white, beige, sand, and other neutral hues.

These are just a few ideas to help you have your own home in the minimalist look you want. You can add your own concepts to add personal touches. Just keep in mind the open spaces and be one with nature and you will not go wrong.
