Roger loves Christmas. Every year, Roger and his mom and dad go to Nanny's house in Fern Bay on Christmas Eve for a big Christmas party
This year Mom, Papa and Roger arrived at Nanny's house just as he was starting to do night. Mom and Dad went to the kitchen to help Nanny and Grandad get ready for the party. Roger stayed in the living room watching Nanny's Christmas cards.
There were cards with Christmas trees, cards with robins, snow scenes, churches, angels and with Santa Claus. But especially Roger noticed a map showing children sitting around a Christmas tree all happy with their gifts. The wrapping paper covered the floor. But in the corner, a little boy looked sad. He did not hold a present.
Just as Roger was thinking about the map, a loud cry came from the kitchen. It was Nanny. Roger ran to find out what was wrong. Nanny was crying. She just realized that she had forgotten to buy a Christmas pudding, and now all the shops were closed for the holidays.
Roger felt sad. It would not be like Christmas without Christmas pudding. But he did not want to see Nanny upset, so he told him: "It's good, we can buy a Christmas pudding the day after Christmas and we can have a second Christmas dinner."
Nanny smiles and hugs Roger. Together they started putting all the food and drinks for the party. Nanny gave Roger a special job. He had to be in charge of playing music.
Soon, people started arriving for the party. There was Uncle Bob and Aunty Jean, Aunt June and Uncle Bill, Uncle Fred and Aunty Freda, and Auntie Nelly and Uncle Sid. Everyone seemed happy to be here, and everyone told Roger how much he had grown since last year.
Suddenly, there was a big knock on the door. He was an old man with a white beard that looked a bit like Nanny. At first, Nanny seemed surprised to see him, then she looked happy and they kissed. Nanny explained that it was his brother, Uncle Tom, and she had not seen him for many years
Uncle Tom gave Nanny a big bag and he gave Roger a neatly wrapped gift.
until morning. "Says Uncle Tom.
Nanny's eyes lit up as she peered inside the bag. C & # 39; was a big Christmas pudding
"How did you know I had forgotten the Christmas pudding?" asked Nanny.
Uncle Tom smiles. "Remember when were children," says he, "I've always known exactly what you thought of."
Uncle Tom was very entertaining, he danced more than anyone, and then he started singing Christmas songs.R Roger laughs singing his singing favorite, Silent Night.
Eventually the guests started leaving until only Roger, Mom, Dad and Uncle Tom stayed in.
"You will not stay tonight and have dinner with we tomorrow? ? Nanny asked.
But Uncle Tom explained that his daughter was already preparing dinner at home
They all went out to greet dawn while Uncle Tom was leaving in a big red car at night. Roger had never seen a car like this before.
"Better to go to bed now," says Mom, "or Santa Claus will not come."
Roger was excited but he was also tired and Nanny's feather bed He went quickly to ease
In his dream, Roger found himself in the room that he had seen on the Christmas card. children were all laughing and showing off what they had for Christmas Roger went up to the sad little boy in the corner
At first, the boy seemed to have seen a ghost.
"Do not have not afraid, said Roger, I will not hurt you, I call Roger, what's your name? "
" I'm Jimmy, "said the boy.
"What's wrong?" Roger asked.
"All my friends have received gifts, but Santa has forgotten me." said Jimmy.
Roger helped Jimmy to look again, and together they found a gift with Jimmy's name under the wrapping paper.
At this point, Roger is awake. It was the light of day. Roger went down to the living room. Santa had been there and there were a lot of gifts under the tree. But before Roger opened them, he had to look at the Christmas card with the children. The little boy in the map was now holding a little train and was smiling.
Roger spent the morning playing with his gifts while Mum and Nanny were preparing dinner. Of all Roger's gifts, his favorite was that of Uncle Tom. It was a beautiful car model of Uncle Tom.
At lunch time, Roger and his family sat down for a delicious turkey dinner, as usual it was the best meal of the year. And after they had the Christmas pudding of Uncle Tom. It was delicious. They all agreed that it was the best Christmas pudding they had ever tasted.
After dinner, the whole family went out for a walk in the afternoons as usual. While they were putting their coats on Grandad, they noticed that Uncle Tom had left his umbrella.
"Oh my darling," said Nanny, "he's still as forgetful as ever, I'll have to call him when we get back." They all enjoyed their walk by the sea. It was a sunny afternoon, although a little cold. Roger liked to look at all the Christmas lights and decorations on the outside of the houses.
When they got home, Nanny telephoned Uncle Tom. His daughter Barbara answered. Nanny was surprised when Barbara told him that Uncle Tom had moved to Canada six years ago.
