Eating Healthy at Work

One of the most common New Year's resolutions year after year is to improve overall well-being, which includes eating healthy and losing weight. Eating healthy can be a difficult goal to achieve when the work-family balance is distressed. A hectic and unbalanced life often increases stress; and stress is known to affect your mood, your energy level and your eating habits. During the busy day of meetings and conference calls, it is often easier to take a blueberry muffin in the rest room than to mix a cup of yogurt with fruit and granola. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the amount of calories they consume daily by making impulsive food choices.

Here are some examples:

· Yoplait Light Yogurt Blueberry Patch is 100 Calories Compared to Dunkin Donuts Blueberry Muffin 500 Calories or Reduced Blueberry Muffin Fat to 450 Calories

· An Average Banana is 110 Calories compared to a slice of 490 Calorie Starbucks Banana Bread

· One average apple is 95 calories compared to 250 calorie baked apple pie

· McDonalds Banana and Strawberry Smoothie of 260 Calories McCafe Shake at 710 Calories

· A packet of Quaker instant apple and cinnamon oatmeal is 130 calories compared to Starbucks Outrageous 370 calorie oatmeal cookie

According to the Ministry of Health. United States agriculture, the caloric intake suggested for an active adult woman is 2,200 calories and the recommended caloric intake for an active adult man is 2,800 calories (both can vary according to age, activity level and weight). When you eat high-calorie foods during a meal or snack, it does not leave much room for the rest of the meal that day. If you're craving a particular high-calorie food, do a quick search for a healthy and satisfying alternative. There are countless sites to help determine the caloric content of all foods and most restaurants display nutritional facts on their website. Finally, do not forget to read nutrition labels when they are available! Just because a food looks healthy, does not mean that it is really healthy. For the purpose of this blog, only calories were compared. There are several other factors to consider when choosing healthy foods; that is, fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, sugar and proteins are among the most popular.
