Home Repair – Do it yourself

Doing the work yourself and avoiding the costs of a professional's workmanship is attractive to many people. But you have to consider the extra time you are going to spend. If your time is more valuable, hire him. If not, roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Here are 10 of our favorite easy DIY projects.

1. painting of the walls
2. electrical replacement switches
3. painting of a house
4. setting up of a light
5. change of the locks of your doors
6. installation of new handles
7. replacement of the toilet seat
8. installation of minor bathroom accessories
9. caulking of the bathtub or washbasin
10. replacing bulbs

There are tons of more difficult projects should be firmly anchored in the skills required for each. Job like laying carpets or installing a fireplace may require more than one person and there is certainly a necessary know-how.

If you do the work yourself, you should expect that it will take at least 50% more than what a professional could do. As they do all the time they have become faster and know how to hit their groove quickly. You will dig a little more and it will take more time. Travel to the hospital should not be counted.

When shopping for equipment, remember the old rule that you get what you pay for. A sale is a good thing and should be taken advantage of, but do not buy cheap materials or you will redo your project from 1 day to 5 years later. If the quality does not matter then you should not do what you are.
