Acne usually develops in adolescence or puberty, when the sebaceous glands are at their peak to produce oil on the face and other parts of the body. Acne can easily be treated at this stage because the skin is softer and elastic. The skin also has a higher absorption rate for medicated soaps and creams recommended by dermatologists. This event, for the most part, ends after puberty when they reach their early twenties. Unfortunately, there are some who continue to fight acne even in adulthood. However, there are many ways to fight and cure acne, even in adulthood. Remember though that it takes a lot of discipline and patience because these treatments usually last between three and six weeks. Here are some ways that you can try to get rid of your acne:
1. Use creams and ointments containing 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl Peroxide has a strong antibacterial content known to attack the source of acne by lightening it in about 2 weeks or even less. It is however important to stick to 2.5% rather than 5% because it is too powerful. Excessive exposure to benzoyl peroxide may cause redness and irritation of the skin. The 2.5% is softer but just as effective. Apply on infected acne areas twice a day daily to get faster results.
2. If you want to go natural, you can also use oatmeal and milk as an alternative to treating acne. Oatmeal and milk are packed with essential vitamins and minerals that immunize the skin against infections such as acne. Soak the uncooked oatmeal flakes in the milk until they are soft. After that, apply on to face. Make sure the oatmeal sticks like a mask for the face. Leave it for fifteen to twenty minutes before rinsing with water. Perform this diet twice a day. You will notice that acne gradually disappears.
3. If you like cooking, you can also use baking soda as a treatment for acne. The coarseness of baking soda helps to exfoliate the skin. It also has its own natural antibacterial properties to treat acne. Add a few drops of water to the baking soda and whip until foam forms. Now, gently apply to the face in a circular motion before rinsing with cold water. Do this at least four times a week.
