Treating Acne – Benzoyl Peroxide

Almost all topical treatments for acne available on the counter today contain a substance called benzoyl peroxide. This chemical is very commonly used. This is not a guaranteed cure but it is an effective treatment.

Topical treatment is the first line of defense if you have mild or moderate acne. The use of topical treatment is effective in many cases. In addition, the treatment of acne with topical treatments is quite safe and has little side effects.

Do not use anything with benzoyl peroxide on scuffed skin. You should also be aware that the chemical may cause some people to dry or peel, be irritating or even cause a rash. Be sure to use it carefully if you have dry or sensitive skin.

Benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria. It is so that it is effective against acne; it kills bacteria that cause most breakouts. Generally, any topical acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide can be considered safe and likely to be effective. It is highly unlikely that it is causing any real damage to your skin even if you react to it with irritation.

Allergy is another matter. If you are one of the few people who experience a burning, swelling or itching after a topical treatment, consult your doctor immediately.

When treating your skin with a topical preparation containing benzoyl peroxide, it is important not to use any other topical cutaneous preparations. If you do, this can reduce the effectiveness of your acne treatment.

In general, topical treatments with a concentration of at least 2.5% benzoyl peroxide are effective for most people. Mild to moderate acne responds well to benzoyl peroxide and people of any age can use it as long as they are not allergic to it.

Some people are not able to defeat acne with topical treatments. These people may want to try the Zeno Acne Clearing Device. It is a portable unit that emits a non-damaging heat that kills bacteria and eliminates pimples. Often, Zeno is effective in a few hours, making it the fastest way to get rid of acne.
