What is your design sign?

If you are constantly disoriented about how to make your style at home, relax, take a deep breath and forgive yourself. We do not come into this world with knowledge, we learn as we go!

At first glance, the interior design seems to be on the latest trends, beautiful fabrics, furniture or rugs, and the hottest label.

First, let me tell you what I'm not going to talk about! I am not going to talk here about current trends, what and what. I will not show you the homes of movie stars or business magnates. I will not show you rooms and expensive furniture that you could afford, or not.

So, you will not find the answer on any television show, in any magazine or website.

The answer is you !

After serving over a thousand customers in 25 years, the secret to creating a dream home is to dream! So the first step is to know what you want.

Experts and writers who talk about setting goals, from Napoleon Hill to Anthony Robbins to Lynne Grabhorn, speak of a feeling. Yes, written goals are essential, but where does the writing come from? A book? The goals of someone else? No! They come from you! Have you ever really explored what is important to you?

From Trash Bin to Treasure

Here's an exercise to do for you. It will help you choose your home accessories, but it will also help you find your individual style, your "Design Sign".

Get into your attic, search your closets, look under your beds and take out the things you packed. Pull them out and lay them on the floor. What objects make you feel good, bring you joy that you have forgotten?

Look through the decorating magazines you have around (or from other magazines, from elsewhere). What images move your heart, make you smile and move you? Start cutting out the images and pasting them – just a few if you do not have a lot of time.

During your day, look for things that make you feel good. I do not talk about expensive things or objects of status; I speak of simple and subtle images and memories that bring you peace, joy and comfort. Only you know what they are.
These are the things that bring beauty to your life, not the last trip to the mall.

Echoes of the Childhood Past

Think of the places you experienced while growing up. If you have pleasant memories, remember them. What gives you a sense of security, excitement, wonder?

Growing up, I loved riding horses on our family farm. I liked everything: the green fields, the sound of the wind in the trees, and yes, even the smell of manure!

It is therefore no wonder that I live in a bungalow in the middle of the horse country. No, this is not a "McMansion" in a trendy zip code. I moved there because of the feeling of freedom that I had when I was a kid.

Believe it or not, your conscious intention to find these things will influence your attention to notice them!
If it sounds strange to you, believe me when I tell you that I've seen stranger things. I have these things done to my clients, and I have seen them come alive when they have rediscovered parts of themselves that they had forgotten.

For me, it's all the meaning of interior design: create a warm, expressive and personal home. The first step on the road to self discovery – before you buy anything, or read anything – is to spend some time with yourself and those you love.

Good luck and good decoration!
